One simple technique you can use to get more love flowing into your life starting today.

In chapter 5 of Change your thoughts, change your life, Verse 5 of the Tao Te Ching teaches us that impartiality is the key to unlocking a never ending flow of abundance in every aspect of your life including more love.

The Tao Gives and gives without end, it is available in all its abundance to everyone and everything

The Tao does not give to some and withhold from others. It tells us if we want to tap into that abundance WE need to give impartially too.

When we discriminate, we close ourselves off from the Tao and all its abundance. We then also experience the same level of withholding as we withhold from others.

If you aren’t receiving as much love as you want, it’s because you aren’t giving out love impartially. You’re putting limits on your love. You’re only allowing yourself to love in certain ways, with certain people, in certain situations. You are basically ‘hoarding’ your love.

Wayne reminds us that when we hoard something, we experiences shortages ourselves.

“tHE TAO AND ITS INEXHAUSTIBLE POWERS PARADOXICALLY DISAPPEAR WHEN WE ATTEMPT TO EXCLUDE ANYONE FROM ITS UNPREJUDICED NATURE”
~ Wayne Dyer

How I was keeping myself from receiving more love

In my own life I realized I wasn’t giving love to my husband impartially. I was withholding my love in certain situations because he was acting, or doing, or being something that I didn’t like. (like not hang up the dog’s leash, or snoring loud, or interrupting me while I was concentrating on something)

I would withdraw from him emotionally or even allow myself to be mad. I wasn’t allowing myself to love him impartially; in every way, all the time, no matter what. I was ‘hoarding’ or ‘blocking’ my love based on what I was expecting him to behave like.

Even though we have a pretty good relationship, we still experience discord between us in certain situations because of expectations I had that I didn’t feel were getting met.

Because of these expectations, (We talked in depth about expectations week 4 here) I was setting myself up for disappointment. When I was disappointed, I would withhold or ‘block’ my love.

We all do this in one way or another. We stop ourselves from giving more love to someone because we want something from them first. But, verse 5 tells us that the Tao gives impartially AND it even goes on to say that the more it is used, the more it produces!

It’s an unlimited resource available to everyone in every way.

We are the ones who block it from flowing freely in our lives, because WE create conditions for when we will allow it to flow!

To receive more love freely, we must give more love impartially – without conditions.

But how do you do that?

In the book A course in miracles there are many passages that talk about how we are ‘one’ with our brothers. (in other words, we are one with all of God’s creations, or the world of the 10,000 things) It says, when we love our ‘brothers’, we love ourselves. When we give to our brothers, we give to ourselves. When we attack our brothers, we attack ourselves. When we hoard or withhold from our brothers, we withhold from ourselves.

In this chapter, Wayne reminds us to ‘see yourself in everyone

When you realize that ‘we are one’ and you ‘see yourself in everyone and everything’ then treating everyone impartially in every situation becomes easier.

One way to give more love so you can receive more love

A couple weeks ago Katherine Clement and I were talking about how we each can be a positive ripple of change in the world. One thing she shared with me was a little ritual she does to send out love and healing energy to the world.

She says simple statements like these as she goes through her days.

“As I feed myself, I feed the world”
“As I nourish myself, I nourish the world”
“As I give to myself, I give to the world”

After I read chapter 5 of ‘Change your thoughts, Change your life’ and I internalized the 5th verse of the Tao, I realized all the areas of my life where I was withholding love, friendship, money, my time, etc…

It dawned on me that I could use simple statements like theses to change how I was interacting with my husband and stop withholding my love from him.

Because I want to receive more love, I Switched them around a bit

Here’s what I came up with…

“As I give love to my husband, I give love to myself”

I also realized I could use this technique in all areas of my life with statements like these…

“As I give love to my children, I give love to myself”
“As I give unconditional love to my coworkers, I give unconditional love to myself”
“As I give unconditional love to the person driving the car next to me, I give unconditional love to myself”

At the end of Chapter 5 Wayne tells us to ask for guidance before every interaction we have with other people.

If you want more love in your life, I suggest that you go into every interaction with people and use these kind statements.

“As I give more love to this person, I give more love to myself”
