How to Live Simple, Be Your Best, and Make your life easier!
Don’t you just hate it when you do something, but everybody and their mother has something to say about it? If you are anything like me, then you ask yourself why they do not fix their own mess and get out of your business right? High five on that! You’re trying to make your life easier and it’s likely that their little two cents will only make things harder for you! In this post, we are going to discuss the Tao Te Ching verse 37 so that you can learn some really simple ways to make your life easier.
Make your life easier by Understanding Natural Order
This chapter of the book opens with a great point to consider. Think about all of the ills in the world and track back to how they began. Often, it goes back to the natural tendency we have to “fix things to our liking”. Stick with me a moment before you start to exclude yourself.
Let me share an example. I have a friend who was extremely upset and exhausted who just broke down in tears. After asking her what was wrong, she shared that she was stressed out and tired because she’s working full time at her job, coming home to run her kids to all of their activities, get their homework done, clean the house, cooking dinner, and every other household responsibility. So I asked her why her husband was not helping and why her kids, who are old enough, were not taking on some of the cleaning chores.
Her answer let me know that she was being controlling and thrived in the chaos. You see, it was not that her husband and children had not tried to assist her. It was that they did not do things the way she wanted them to be done. After a while of that behavior, it got to the point that her husband and children are calling her for every little thing. Do you see how she created her own overwhelm with her need to fix everything in her way?
If you want to make your life easier, stop being so controlling! Your family would be more willing to help if you’d just allow them to do things in their own way! So what, if things aren’t exactly how YOU want them? At least then, you didn’t have to do that task too! Right?
Make your life easier by Cultivating Your Unique Nature
Now that you see how easy it is to interrupt the natural order, let’s talk about the benefits of changing that tendency. Think back throughout your life about something that you started to feel a burden about doing, but you pushed through and did it anyway. Do you have that something in mind now?
I remember playing sports when I was a young kid. I initially started playing because all my friends were and wanted to spend more time with them. Turns out, God blessed me with a lot of natural talent and work ethic. Long story short, I became one of the best female athletes in my area and earned a full basketball scholarship to college.
The only problem was that I did not cultivate my unique nature because of parents, coaches, and scouts saying you have to do this or that. What started off a passion, quickly became a dreaded chore. Me carrying everyone’s burden sort of backfired. I venture to say that I would have worked even harder and played with much more joy had I not carried all of that burden. I think of my many accomplishments and have no doubt there would have been many more if I had actually loved what I was doing. I stunted one of my best qualities, an unyielding passion.
Make your life easier by simply following your passion and having fun, instead taking on the stress of trying to live up to everyone else’s expectations!
Make your life easier: The Moral to Living Simple
You are enough and most of the time you will find the answers if you just allow yourself to be in the moment. You do not need to look for a shiny fix or seek out all kinds of external guidance. If want to make your life easier, just be yourself and allow the beautiful gifts that you were born with to work on their own. It’s amazing how much clarity you get when there is less noise. Don’t short change your best qualities or anyone else for that matter.
